In 2015, I found myself teaching an energetic and enthusiastic group of Grade 6 students who craved more and more musical challenges. I needed a piece that had more rhythmic variety and independence than what was already in their folders but could not find anything that would work with the instrumentation and strengths of the band. The Iron Will of Jack has three independent parts lead by the low brass and winds. The students loved the the melodies and the challenges that were in the piece.
